I wish I had kept the article, but not long ago I read about an 8 year old boy who was almost a millionaire! He started a few little business ideas when he was 5 years old (we’re talking about selling baseball cards, cleaning people’s garages and other small jobs) and with his profits he boought a number of houses (aka real estate investment) and his net worth is now estimated at nearly 1 million CDN.

A few weeks ago, I watched a video with über blogger and video blogger Gary Vaynerchuk who explained that while in high school he was selling sports cards at a weekend fair and was making $2,000 a week (he was making far more money than the teachers in his school and I’m sure he was making far more than the Principle)!

I became an entrepreneur much later in life and wish I had had the courage to have started earlier.

I come from a family of doctors, engineers and medical researchers and honestly being an entrepreneur in my family is like telling them I’ve dyed the skin on my entire body purple. It’s so foreign to them that to this day no one really understands what I do for a living because it’s not related to a “traditional” profession.

I don’t think we were all born to climb the corporate ladder and with the economy changing the way it has since October 2008, it’s clear that having a University degree (or two like I have) is surely not a guarantee of job satisfaction or having a job for life for that matter.

There was once a time when having a University degree guaranteed high pays and job security, but we all know now that the rules of the game have dramatically changed.

I think that fostering the entrepreneurs in kids is so important because some kids should not even think of wasting time in University. They should jump right into their careers, become successful and then if they decide, they can go back to University.

People like Oprah did exactly that and people like Bill Gates never even finished University, yet they are both super successful, super fulfilled and super rich!

If you don’t know how to introduce your kids to the concept of entrepreneurship, I’ve found a great book that is devoted to bringing out the Donald Trump in your kids.

Kidpreneurs Young Entrepreneurs with Big Ideas is the brainchild of brothers Adam Toren and Matthew Toren.

Matthew & Adam are the founders of YoungEntrepreneur.com, which has quickly become one of the largest social networking forums for young entrepreneurs in the world. These brothers have many teaching and research interests including marketing, business development, entrepreneurial emergence, entrepreneurial strategy management, business growth techniques, innovation, and new venture creation. One of their specialties is improving profitability of under-performing businesses with a unique bottom-line program.

Kidpreneurs Young Entrepreneurs with Big Ideas shows that you’re never too young to become an entrepreneur and I wish I had read this book as a kid.

If you kid has been playing around with a few business ideas, he/she will eat up this book!

If you are looking for a great little way to set the year on the right foot for your kids, I highly suggest this great book. In fact, I’d suggest that not only you get the book for your kid, but that you also read it because this will become a great conversation piece for the entire family!
